About Type 2 Shift™
Why this work exists — and how I support people living with Type 2 diabetes
A steadier, more human approach to living with Type 2 diabetes
I'm Azaret Villeda, a Nurse Practitioner with a focus in endocrinology, a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), a trained health and life coach.
I support adults living with type 2 diabetes as they navigate medications, daily decisions, and the emotional weight that often comes with managing blood sugar — especially during periods of change.
I also work with individuals using GLP-1 medications, focusing not only on how they work clinically, but how those changes show up in appetite, energy, routines, and daily life.
My approach blends clinical understanding with coaching support, so diabetes care feels clearer, calmer, and more sustainable in real life.
Why this work is personal to me
Diabetes has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Growing up, I lived with a quiet but constant fear that my parents could die from diabetes. I saw firsthand how much uncertainty, stress, and confusion the condition can create — not just for the person diagnosed, but for the entire family. That fear stayed with me and shaped the path I chose.
I went into healthcare wanting to help people in the way I wish my own family has been supported. I believed that if I could understand diabetes deeply enough — if I could learn how to prevent complications, explain what was happening, and share knowledge clearly — I could help others feel less afraid and more in control.
Over time, I've also come to accept a hard truth: we often don't get a second chance to undo the impact diabetes can have once complications set it. I've seen the toll it has taken on my family, and I've seen those same patterns repeat in hospitals and clinics — across all ages, from the moment of diagnosis through the later stages of the disease.
That reality is painful. But it's also what fuels my commitment to prevention, education, and steady support.
Because knowledge, when paired with guidance and time, is powerful — and lasting.
Why diabetes deserves more time
In healthcare settings, most providers care deeply. At the same time, visits are often brief and focused on urgent priorities —diagnosing, adjusting medications, and interpreting labs. There is rarely enough time to slow down, educate, reflect, or support the ongoing behavioral changes diabetes requires.
What's often missing is space.
Space to understand patterns.
Space to process emotions.
Space to ask questions.
Space to build confidence over time.
Diabetes is not a condition that responds well to rushed care. It unfolds daily, over years. It requires time, continuity, and support that extends beyond the exam room.
Why Type 2 Shift™ exists
Type 2 Shift™ was created to fill a gap many people experience after diagnosis: support that extends beyond brief appointments and into daily life.
My role is not to replace medical care or tell you what to do clinically. It's to support you in understanding what's happening in your body, interpreting information with clarity, and learning how to live with diabetes in a way that feels steady — not consuming.
Through coaching and education, I help people:
Make sense of blood sugar patterns and lab results
Navigate medications, including GLP-1s, with confidence
Reduce the mental noise around food and numbers
Build trust in their own decision-making
Feel supported even outside the exam room
Because the goal isn't perfection.
It's empowerment.
My philosophy
I believe that:
Diabetes deserves time and space
Education should feel supportive, not overwhelming
Shame and fear are barriers to sustainable change
People are capable when they're given clarity, not pressure
I don't believe in rigid rules, one-size-fits-all plans, or "fixing" people.
I believe in helping individuals understand their own patterns, advocate for themselves, and take an active role in their health — so diabetes fits into life, instead of taking it over.
